FROM JONATHAN’S MOUTH TO THE EARS OF NIGERIANS – Candid Responses From A President In Crisis

By on May 7, 2014

As we move closer to the pivotal 2015 National elections in Nigeria, some of President Jonathan Goodluck’s sympathizers continue to tell us the man deserves a second chance (or is it 3rd chance?). They have been proclaiming at every opportunity that haters have been attacking the president unfairly despite the great works he has been doing for the country. These Jonathan apologists would want us to believe that President Jonathan has the intellectual wherewithal to run this country for another 4 years, and has actually been doing a great job, which his opponents have simply refused acknowledge. Yet,  regardless of what his apologists are saying, the President himself, by his own mouth, has consistently given us an idea of what we can expect from him, or not expect from him, if we were ‘kind’ enough to give him a second term in office.

I have compiled a few of the thoughts of our President, as expressed by him at different interviews, for Nigerians and those interested in the fate of Nigeria, to read and judge for themselves. I have only added my comments in italics and parenthesis, and those are simply my own opinion, which you are free to discountenance as you read on.

As the good book says, by their fruits we shall know them. Here are the President’s own words, direct from his own mouth into the microphones of reporters, on several issues affecting Nigeria and Nigerians. Now, you can judge for yourself whether these are the smartest words you expect from your President, and someone who deserves to be rewarded with another 4 yeas in office, come 2015.

So, does President  Jonathan Goodluck deserve another 4 years based on these answers? YOU be the judge by READING; COMMENTING AND SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS on his quotable quotes below:

President Jonathan thinking second termON WHY HE HAS NOT DECLARED HIS ASSETS AS REQUIRED BY CONSTITUTION: “I don’t give a damn about asset declaration” [Yet, this President wants to be taken serious on the war on corruption while blatantly telling Nigerians he does not care about a constitutional provision]

ON THE MISSING OIL MONEY: “50 billion dollars cannot miss. It’s ridiculous, because even the USA will know its missing. It’s their money” [Is this an intelligent answer from a President?]

IN REFERENCE TO THE KIDNAPPED GIRLS AT CHIBOK: “Allegations that the girls have been sold out as wives is untrue, there’s no evidence” [Does this sound like a man who really understand what is at stake here? At least there is evidence over 200 children have been kidnapped!]

ILLEGAL FUEL PRICE INCREASE: “I will set up a panel to investigate the illegal increase in pump price by marketers” [Note that he did not say ‘alleged’ illegal increase in pump price. Which means he knows there is an illegal increase in price, but all he would do is set up another committee to look into it]

ON PLANS FOR ENSURING SAFETY DURING ECONOMIC CONFERENCE: “We advice Abuja residents to stay at home during the World economic forum, for those few days” [This is our president’s solution for providing security during a routine economic summit? This action, by the way, is also an illegal holiday in violations of the Holidays Act of Nigeria]

JONATHAN CLUELESSON ALLEGATIONS OF BEING A SOFT PRESIDENT: “Some people say O the president is too gentle, I have been a president for about 4yrs now, ask yourself how many service chiefs have I changed, how many police heads. have I changed? No other person has done that” [Now, that is something. He wants us to judge his toughness, not based on the problems he solved, but by how many service chiefs he removed, and replaced with incompetents who cannot deal with Boko haram?]

ON ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION IN HIS CABINET: “No human being can satisfy everybody. If I change my cabinet every time they complain of corruption, what does that make me?” [Basically, this president is saying we should we tolerate corruption because it happens all the time?]

ON EXCESSIVE PRIVATE JETS USE BY NNPC: “The ministry of petroleum has aircrafts. They have always been using Jets, and when their jets have problems, they hire. I don’t know” [Now you have to laugh at that. Is he really serious here or joking?]

IN REFERENCE TO MISSING 20 BILLION DLLARS: “Even the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, if we ask him to bring 10 billion dollars, he won’t bring it in cash” [Whaat? Does the President think you have to have that kind of money in cash? Somebody should tell him Barkin Zuwo died a long time ago!]

ON PRESSURE ON PDP TO ANNOUNCEMENT PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: “APC that is an opposition party has not announced their presidential candidate; you are asking PDP to announce. We are the champions, the leaders; the Cup is in our hands. The challengers have not even announced” [Now that’s being pro-active. Wait until the other guy does something and then follow suit.]

boko haram2 - hardtalk naijaON HIS ADMISSION THAT BOKO-HARAM HAVING INFILTRATED HIS CABINET: “I never said Boko Haram infiltrated my cabinet. The FEC is the cabinet made up of the President, VP and ministers, what I said is that in “the government which is made up of three arms” [We all heard his statement at the time, and read about it too, but the man is now saying he was talking about 3 arms of govt.. Hmmmm, maybe he meant boko haram is now an arm of govt.?]

ON SUGGESTIONS THAT HE SHOULD ATTACK THE HIDEOUT OF THE BOKO HARAM KIDNAPPERS: “”If we attack Sambisa forest, the insurgents will disperse, go back to the villages and cause more harm” [You have to laugh at this one. So we must leave the forest untouched so that the terrorists do not relocate or go home? Really?]

ON DEALING WITH TERRORISM: “We need support from the US to tackle terrorism. We need counter terrorism logistics support” [huraaay! the man finally admits he is not competent to deal with the mess! Unfortunately, the U.S. Govt has denied receiving any such request for help from our president]

ON POSSIBILITY OF FINDING THE MISSING GIRLS: “I pray and believe that the Chibok kidnapping will not be like the missing Malaysian plane with over 200 passengers. It has not been found even with the best technology at work” [So, the man is saying we should not hold our breath about the children coming home, after all the Malaysian plane has not been found too. That is really very encouraging for the parents of the kids, dont you think?]

jonathan and bokoON THE PETROLEUM SCANDALS IN NNPC: “The press over played the petroleum scandals to get at the minister. And when they failed, they stopped” [So, as far as Jonathan is concerned Dezeani is doing an excellent job despite presiding over a ministry with daily scandals and allegations of corruption. Well done sir]

ON WHAT HE HAS TO SAY TO PARENTS OF KIDNAPPED CHILDREN: “Convey this to the parents and guardians of the Chibok girls; we need photographs of those girls. We promise we will find those girls” [Our President needs photographs of the kidnapped girls to go and look for them, right? Where? At Onitsha market?]

There you have it from the horse’s mouth. He has shared his thoughts with you, and how his mind works on several burning issues in Nigeria. Now you decide whether to give him a pass mark and reward him with another 4 years of this or thank him for his services so far, vote him out and then kick him all the way back to Yenagoa.

As always, the ultimate choice of the kind of leadership we get and accept will be made by Nigerians. We can stay in our houses and complain, or we may for once in our democracy decide to do something about it, and resist any rigging or imposition of rulers on us.

Whatever we decide in 2015, we will certainly have to live with that choice for another 4 years, along with our children.

Now this may be Hardtalk, but its true talk nevertheless.

It is very simple the reasons FAYOSE WON the election. He ruled Ekiti for some months and left some achievements on ground, if you now check for that period and the period Dr.FAYEMI spend and his own achievements the result is there. that means if FAYOSE happened to stay up to what he did, the wonders of Ekiti will be there.
